The Meteorological Department has issued a warning for heavy rainfall across Gujarat. This alert is effective until July 3. The rainy season is traditionally linked to the auspicious festival of Rath Yatra, celebrated in July. Many believe that rain on this day indicates a good monsoon. On June 27, the rains began in several districts, bringing relief from the heat.
Currently, an orange and yellow alert has been declared for 28 districts, including Kutch, Jamnagar, and Rajkot. In Junagadh district, some areas recorded as much as 6 inches of rain. Reports indicate that over 215 talukas have experienced rainfall. From 6 AM to 10 AM today, around 49 talukas received about half an inch of rain, providing a welcome coolness to residents.
The weather department has warned of further rain in the coming days. On June 29, an orange alert will be in place for Kutch and Banaskantha, while several other districts will see yellow alerts due to expected heavy rainfall.
On June 30, heavy rain with thunderstorms is expected in districts including Kutch, Gir Somnath, and Tapi. The department warns of severe weather conditions.
Looking ahead to July 1, an orange alert is issued for Navsari and Valsad, with yellow alerts for several other regions including Surat and Narmada.
July 2 will see an increase in rainfall across the state, with orange alerts for heavy rain predicted in districts like Aravalli and Dahod. Meanwhile, yellow alerts are also in place for various regions including Kutch and Panchmahal.
On July 3, heavy rain is anticipated in North Gujarat, prompting further alerts. The Sardar Sarovar Dam is currently receiving water inflow of 28,578 cubic meters per second, with a recorded height of 118.8 meters. The dam can hold a maximum of 138.68 meters of water, indicating significant rainfall in the region.
Residents are advised to stay updated on weather conditions and prepare for possible flooding in low-lying areas. The authorities are monitoring the situation closely and will provide further updates as necessary. This forecast highlights the importance of being aware of weather changes during the monsoon season, which is vital for agriculture and daily life in Gujarat.
