Gandhinagar, Gujarat – The state of Gujarat is bracing for heavy to very heavy rainfall in various regions next week. This news emerged from a meeting of the Weather Watch Group held at the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC) in Gandhinagar. The meeting was chaired by Relief Commissioner Alok Kumar Pandey. Officials reviewed the monsoon situation in the state and discussed preparations by relevant departments.
According to the meteorological department, Gujarat has been experiencing rain over the last few days. The forecast indicates that the state will witness heavy to very heavy rainfall soon. Officials stressed the need for all departments to remain alert and ready to tackle potential risks associated with the rainfall.
The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has deployed a total of 32 teams across various districts to respond to any emergencies caused by heavy rain. Additionally, two teams are on standby for any urgent situations. This proactive measure aims to ensure the safety of residents during the upcoming rains.
Officials from the irrigation department reported on the status of water reservoirs in the state. Out of 206 reservoirs, 21 are on high alert, 12 are on alert, and 19 are under warning. This information is crucial for managing water resources and ensuring the safety of communities near these reservoirs.
Currently, 94 roads have been closed due to flooding and waterlogging. The authorities assured that these roads would be reopened once the water recedes. Various departments including the Central Water Commission, health, energy, urban development, and agriculture were represented in the meeting to ensure a coordinated response.
In the past few days, Gujarat has seen significant rainfall. For instance, from June 26 to June 27, various areas recorded notable rainfall. The state has received an average of 256.96 mm of rain, which is about 29.13% of the average rainfall for this time of year. The highest rainfall was recorded in Junagadh district, with a total of 6.18 inches. Meanwhile, some areas like Kutch and parts of central Gujarat experienced less rainfall, highlighting the uneven distribution of rain across the state.
Farmers and residents are advised to stay vigilant and prepare for the upcoming monsoon conditions. The government is making all necessary arrangements to deal with the situation effectively.
As the monsoon progresses, the weather department will continue to monitor the situation closely and provide updates on rainfall patterns. Residents are encouraged to stay informed about the weather conditions and heed any warnings issued by local authorities.
