In the last 24 hours, Botad district has experienced a significant amount of rainfall. Reports indicate that Gadhda taluka received the highest rainfall, reaching up to 14 inches. Meanwhile, Bhavnagar district recorded an average rainfall of over 8 inches, with Palitana and Shihor receiving around 12 inches each. The monsoon season has brought much-needed rain to Saurashtra, marking a welcome start for the region. The State Emergency Operation Center in Gandhinagar confirmed these figures.
The heavy rain has created challenging conditions in Gadhda. The continuous downpour has led to flooding in many areas, with rivers and dams overflowing. This is a record-setting rainfall for the first monsoon showers of the season. Local villages are struggling with flooded roads, making it difficult for residents to travel.
In Gadhda, significant rainfall has also been observed in the surrounding areas. More than 10 inches of rain fell in Jesar and Umarala in Bhavnagar, while Amreli’s Savarkundla also saw heavy rainfall. In total, Mahuva in Bhavnagar received about 9 inches of rain. Other areas like Rajula, Amreli, and Liliya also recorded over 6 inches.
Rainfall across the state has varied, with 25 talukas receiving over 2 inches and 66 talukas getting more than 1 inch. However, 93 talukas recorded less than 1 inch. Across Gujarat, there have been reports of rainfall in 221 talukas, averaging over 1.5 inches for the period.
As of June 17, 2025, by 6 AM, the overall average rainfall in the state was noted to be about 8 percent. The maximum rainfall in a short period was witnessed in Umarala, where more than 3.5 inches fell between 6 AM and 10 AM. Additionally, areas in Botad, such as Barwala, received 3 inches, while Vallabhpur in Bhavnagar and parts of Ahmedabad also saw about 2 inches of rain in just four hours.
Residents are advised to stay cautious as the weather continues to change. The government is monitoring the situation closely and is prepared to assist those affected by the flooding. The rainfall has brought relief to farmers and the agricultural sector, providing much-needed water for crops. However, it has also posed challenges in terms of transport and safety. Local authorities are working to clear the roads and ensure safe passage for all.
In summary, the recent heavy rainfall in Botad and surrounding districts illustrates the powerful impact of the monsoon season in Gujarat. While it brings benefits to agriculture, it also requires careful management to prevent flooding and maintain safety for residents.
