Heavy Rainfall Hits Botad District in Gujarat

Ahmedabad: The monsoon has arrived in Gujarat, bringing heavy rain to several districts. In the last 24 hours, Botad district has experienced the highest rainfall, with reports of 7.5 inches in the Barwala taluka. Surendranagar district also saw significant rainfall, with over 6 inches in Sayla.

As per the State Emergency Operation Centre in Gandhinagar, the average rainfall across the state was recorded at 10.46% until 6:00 AM today. Saurashtra received the highest rainfall at 19.18%, followed by Kutch at 17.55%.

In addition to Botad, other areas also reported heavy rainfall. The talukas of Muli in Surendranagar and Jodiya in Jamnagar received over 5 inches of rain. Talukas in Surendranagar, Bhavnagar, and Amreli also recorded over 4 inches.

Locations such as Chuda in Surendranagar, Ranpur in Botad, Gandhidham in Kutch, and Diyodar in Banaskantha received more than 3 inches of rain. A total of 17 talukas received over 2 inches of rain, while 43 talukas reported more than 1 inch. In contrast, 152 talukas received less than 1 inch.

Today, June 18, 2025, marks a significant start to the monsoon season in Gujarat. The rainfall is vital for agriculture and helps replenish water supplies. Authorities have been monitoring water levels in local reservoirs, including the Krishna Sagar Lake in Botad city.

Officials are also working on drainage systems to manage the rainwater effectively. The heavy rainfall is expected to continue, with weather forecasts indicating more rain across the state.
