Gujarat is currently experiencing heavy rainfall, affecting daily life across various districts. The weather department has issued warnings for the next five days, predicting medium to heavy rain. Rain started early in the morning, particularly in Saurashtra, with a significant downpour expected. An orange alert has been issued for areas like Kutch, Dwarka, Junagadh, and Porbandar, while a yellow alert is in place for Jamnagar, Rajkot, Amreli, Gir Somnath, Bhavnagar, Anand, Bharuch, Navsari, Daman, and Dadra and Nagar Haveli.
The state has reported rainfall in 171 talukas in just 24 hours. Kalyanpur in Dwarka recorded the highest rainfall of 3 inches, leading to waterlogging in fields and affecting local residents. Other areas like Mandvi in Kutch saw 2.5 inches of rain, and 1.5 inches fell in Nakhtarana.
Overall, Gujarat has received an average of 29.89% rainfall this season, with South Gujarat receiving the highest at 32.17%. Central Gujarat follows closely with 31.30%, while Saurashtra has had 31.25% and Kutch 26.16%. Bhavnagar district has reported the highest seasonal rainfall at 49.1%.
The heavy rainfall is attributed to a low-pressure area formed in the Bay of Bengal, which is expected to positively impact Gujarat. Currently, three weather systems are active: a cyclonic circulation near Pakistan, a low-pressure area in the Bay of Bengal, and a trough line passing over Gujarat.
As a result, good rainfall is expected, particularly in Saurashtra and Kutch, where heavy to very heavy rain is likely. Wind speeds may reach 40 to 50 km/h in Saurashtra. While South Gujarat and East Gujarat are also expected to receive rain, the intensity will be lesser in Central and North Gujarat.
The Meteorological Department anticipates heavy rain across North Gujarat, Central Gujarat, and South Gujarat over the next six days. Alerts have been issued for heavy rainfall in Kutch, while moderate rain is expected in districts like Patan, Mehsana, Ahmedabad, and Gandhinagar.
In Panchmahal district, rain started in the afternoon, with areas like Jambughoda, Ghoghamba, and the pilgrimage site Pavagadh witnessing varying intensities of rainfall. The heavy rainfall created rivers on the stairs at Pavagadh, showcasing nature’s beauty and power.
In summary, Gujarat is under the influence of active weather systems leading to heavy rains. Local authorities are on alert, and residents are advised to stay safe during this extreme weather. The impact on agriculture and infrastructure will be closely monitored in the coming days.
