In Ahmedabad, a new community cancer centre has opened in Bopal. This is the fifth centre launched by HOC Vedanta, a well-known network of community cancer centres in India. The goal of this new facility is to make cancer treatment more accessible and local for patients in the city. The centre was inaugurated by the founders of HOC Vedanta, Dr. Shailesh Talati, Dr. Bhavin Shah, Dr. Chirag Desai, and Dr. Sandeep Shah, along with their oncology team.
HOC Vedanta already has centres in Navrangpura, Maninagar, Rajpath, and Nikol. The success of these centres has set the stage for the new facility in Bopal. With cancer cases rising in Ahmedabad, the centre aims to provide much-needed support to patients. Recent statistics show an increase in cases of breast, head and neck, lung, and gastrointestinal cancers in Gujarat. Ahmedabad is one of the top districts for these cases.
Dr. Rahul Jayswal, a cancer physician at the Bopal centre, shared insights about cancer treatment. He emphasized that treatment is not a one-day process; it requires multiple visits, emotional strength, and financial planning. Patients from distant areas often struggle with long travels for treatment. The Bopal centre aims to ease these travel burdens.
Like the other HOC Vedanta centres, the Bopal facility will operate on a day-care basis. It is located outside of hospital premises, making it more accessible. Patients will have access to modern treatments such as chemotherapy, immunotherapy, hormonal therapy, and targeted therapy, all provided by expert oncologists.
Dr. Sanket Shah, a haemato-oncologist, and Dr. Deepa Trivedi, a paediatric oncologist, highlighted the cost-effectiveness of community cancer centres compared to traditional hospital-based models. They noted that treatments here are more personalised and come with lower infrastructure and overhead costs, resulting in direct savings for patients. This approach also provides emotional relief, which is just as important as financial savings.
In 2024, HOC Vedanta formed a strategic partnership with the Mumbai-based MOC Cancer Care and Research Centre. Together, they aim to decentralise cancer treatment, making it accessible at all levels. Their goal is to eliminate geographical and financial barriers that often delay timely treatment.
As a result of this partnership, they now manage the largest network of community cancer centres in India, treating over 85,000 patients annually with successful outcomes. The message from their team is clear: no patient in Gujarat should miss treatment due to distance or cost. They are committed to opening new community centres as needed.
With the Bopal centre’s launch, HOC Vedanta reaffirms its belief that the best cancer care must be affordable, accessible, and local. This new centre represents a significant step in their ongoing mission to provide quality cancer treatment to all patients, especially in a city like Ahmedabad, where the demand is high. The centre will ensure that patients receive the care they need close to home, making a real difference in their lives.
Overall, the opening of the Bopal community cancer centre is a hopeful development for cancer patients in Ahmedabad. HOC Vedanta continues to show its dedication to improving cancer care across the region, ensuring that patients have the support and resources they need during their treatment journey.
