In a recent operation, Vapi police successfully intercepted a truck filled with illegally transported goats on the Vapi Highway. The police received a tip-off from Rajesh Shah, the president of the Vapi Violence Prevention Association, about a truck carrying animals without proper permits. Following this information, the police set up surveillance on the highway. When the truck, identified by the number GJ-31-T-8306, was signalled to stop, the driver attempted to flee. However, the police pursued and managed to stop the vehicle.
Upon inspection, officers discovered that the truck was tightly packed with 128 goats. The driver was asked to provide a permit or veterinary certificate for the animals, but he failed to produce any documentation. This led to the arrest of the driver, Mohammad Iqbal Masak Sheikh, along with six other suspects: Dharampal Singh Omkar Mal Hiralal Khatik, Ramavatar Ramchandraji Bunakar, Rameshkumar Maliram Bhand, Satyanarayan Laduram Bunakar, Hemraj Sitaram Bhadhkariya, and Narendra Kumar Omkar Mal Hiralal Khatik.
The police seized the truck and transferred the goats to the Vapi Animal Shelter for better care. Further investigations revealed that the goats were being transported from Jaipur, Rajasthan, to Bhivandi, Mumbai. The police have registered a case and declared the truck owner, Sajid Hussain Abdul Satharbhai Kahnji, and the animal supplier, Mohammad Ali Patel, wanted.
This operation highlights the ongoing issue of illegal animal trafficking in the region. Such activities not only violate animal welfare laws but also pose significant risks to public safety. The police have committed to taking strong action against those involved in smuggling operations. The successful interception of this truck is seen as a significant step forward in combatting illegal animal trade in Gujarat. Authorities encourage the public to report any suspicious activities to help prevent such incidents in the future.
