Gujarat is making strides in the tech industry with the launch of a new development centre by Infosys in GIFT City. Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel inaugurated the centre, emphasising the state’s commitment to promoting artificial intelligence (AI) and fintech solutions. The Infosys centre is set to focus on advanced financial technology solutions, including AI, data analytics, and blockchain. This initiative aims to create a platform that brings together experts, professionals, and startups to foster innovation in the state.
The newly established centre represents an investment of ₹32 crores. It will create job opportunities for more than 1,000 professionals in the region. Chief Minister Patel expressed gratitude to Infosys for choosing GIFT City as the location for this development centre. He highlighted that GIFT City is becoming a hub for technology and fintech, attracting leading IT and fintech firms from around the globe.
Infosys aims to provide cutting-edge analytics and machine learning insights specifically tailored for financial institutions. The centre will also focus on secure and transparent solutions for digital payments, smart contracts, and asset tokenisation. This aligns with the broader vision of the Indian government to boost the IT sector and make India a leader in knowledge-based economies.
The Chief Minister noted that the establishment of the AI Centre of Excellence in GIFT City would create a collaborative environment for innovation. He mentioned that the digital India mission led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has transformed the technology landscape in India over the past decade.
Infosys CEO Jayesh Sanghrajka shared the company’s journey since its founding in 1981. With over four decades of experience, Infosys has successfully managed systems and processes for global enterprises in 56 countries. In 2024, the company was recognised as one of India’s best employers and ranked among the top 50 workplaces for women for the fourth consecutive year.
This development comes as GIFT City continues to grow as India’s first operational greenfield smart city and international financial services centre. It has attracted numerous banks and fintech companies, establishing itself as a key player in the global financial landscape. The centre’s focus on fintech solutions will further enhance GIFT City’s reputation as a leading financial centre.
The launch event was attended by several dignitaries, including senior officials from the Science and Technology department and representatives from Infosys. With the continued development of GIFT City, Gujarat is poised to take a leading role in the global tech ecosystem, paving the way for future advancements in artificial intelligence and financial technology.
