In a significant move to promote cooperative activities, the Gujarat government has launched a new peanut oil processing unit in Khambhalia. This initiative aligns with the celebration of 2025 as the International Year of Cooperatives. The processing unit, which cost over ₹1 crore, is part of efforts by the state’s agriculture, cooperation, and farmers’ welfare department.
The Khambhalia Agricultural Produce Market Committee (APMC) has been instrumental in this project. With hard work from its staff and members, the unit has started producing and selling the ‘Nirmal’ brand peanut oil. This oil is pure and has received positive feedback from consumers. The number of users is growing daily, leading to increased production.
The aim of the APMC is to ensure that farmers can sell their products at fair prices. Under the guidance of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and Cooperation Minister Jagdish Vishwakarma, this initiative ensures that citizens have access to pure peanut oil. This is a unique effort to support local farmers and promote healthy eating.
The Gujarat government is implementing various schemes to enhance the development of agricultural produce market committees. One such scheme is the ‘Processing Unit Creation Scheme,’ which provides 50% of the cost for building processing units through the agriculture department.
The Nirmal peanut oil is made from the famous G20 peanuts sourced from the Devbhoomi Dwarka region. Before being processed, the peanuts undergo a rigorous cleaning process using advanced machines. These machines remove impurities such as stones, dirt, and harmful chemicals, ensuring high quality.
After the peanuts are cleaned, they are ground into oil using a cold processing method without adding any chemicals. This process helps maintain the oil’s quality and makes it almost organic. The final product is said to be excellent for health, with controlled levels of free fatty acids (FFA) and peroxide value (PV).
The launch of the Nirmal brand peanut oil not only supports local farmers but also addresses the growing demand for healthy cooking oils. As consumers become more health-conscious, products like Nirmal peanut oil are expected to thrive in the market. The commitment to quality and health is clear, making this oil a promising product from Gujarat.
Overall, the establishment of the peanut oil processing unit is a step towards sustainable agricultural practices and cooperative growth. It represents how local initiatives can lead to better health options for the community while supporting the livelihoods of farmers. This venture is one of many that showcase the potential of Gujarat’s agricultural sector and its commitment to health and wellness.
