The Indian School of Business (ISB), one of India’s leading business schools, has partnered with Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited (GUVNL) and the Green Energy Transition Research Institute (GETRI). This collaboration aims to strengthen leadership in the public sector. The move is part of ISB’s ongoing commitment to enhance leadership capabilities in government and public enterprises in Gujarat.
Recently, ISB’s Executive Education Department organised a comprehensive leadership training programme called the “Leadership Development Programme” for GUVNL officials. This initiative included competency mapping exercises, a five-day residential training module, and two asynchronous online sessions. A total of 105 officials participated in the programme, focusing on mindset change, habit development, conflict resolution, and effective team decision-making strategies.
Sunil Sood, Executive Director of Executive Education and Digital Learning at ISB, highlighted that the partnership aligns with ISB’s long-term strategy to create a lasting impact in government leadership. He stated, “This collaboration is a step towards strengthening leadership capabilities in major public institutions.” He also expressed ISB’s eagerness to collaborate with more departments across the state in the future.
Alka Yadava, Director of GETRI, remarked that the Leadership Development Programme marks a transformative step in GUVNL’s journey to prepare a future-ready workforce. As the energy sector rapidly evolves with demands for sustainability, digital transformation, and customer-centric service delivery, empowering officials with not only technical knowledge but also leadership skills, strategic thinking, and collaborative spirit has become essential.
“There is now a renewed sense of purpose, agility, and accountability among our officials due to this initiative,” Yadava added. She believes that cultivating leadership capabilities at all levels of the organisation will enable teams to bring meaningful change and play a key role in advancing India’s energy transition.
The energy sector in Gujarat plays a crucial role in the state’s economy and development. By investing in leadership training, GUVNL aims to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of its operations. The organisation is involved in the bulk purchase and sale of electricity and oversees the activities of its six subsidiary companies, including Generation, Transmission, and Distribution of electricity.
The collaboration between ISB and GUVNL is expected to set a benchmark for future initiatives in leadership development across various sectors in Gujarat. This partnership reflects a growing recognition of the importance of leadership skills in enhancing the performance of public institutions. With such initiatives, the state can look forward to a more skilled and capable workforce ready to tackle the challenges of the modern energy landscape.
As GUVNL continues to adapt to the evolving energy sector, the focus on leadership development will play a pivotal role in ensuring that its officials are equipped to handle future challenges. The goal is to foster a culture of innovation, excellence, and impact within the organisation.
In conclusion, the partnership between ISB and GUVNL marks a significant step towards building a robust leadership framework in Gujarat’s energy sector. This initiative is set to inspire other public institutions to invest in leadership training to enhance their operational effectiveness and service delivery.
