Ahmedabad city is set to see a major upgrade at Kankaria Zoo, enhancing the experience for visitors. The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) plans to invest 240 million rupees to renovate the zoo and expand the enclosures for various animals and birds. This renovation comes after the successful development of Kankaria Lake, which has attracted many tourists.
The zoo, located in Kankaria, houses a variety of species, including birds and aquatic animals. Many visitors frequent the zoo, enjoying the diverse wildlife. The renovation aims to increase the size of the existing enclosures, which are currently deemed too small and inadequate for the animals.
In addition to the zoo improvements, the AMC will also repair nearby roads and enhance the overall aesthetics of the area. Recently, the children’s park, previously known as Nehru Park, was renamed to “Balvatika Fun Carnival” following its renovation.
Kankaria Lake, the largest lake in Ahmedabad, is situated in the southern part of the city. It was originally built by Sultan Ahmed Shah in the 15th century. The area around the lake has become a popular spot for locals and tourists alike, especially during the evening hours when families come to stroll and dine. The lake features a garden in its center called Naginawadi, which is accessible via a bridge.
The zoo and the surrounding attractions offer a variety of activities for families, including a children’s city and a toy train. In recent years, Kankaria Carnival has become a well-known event at the lake, featuring cultural programs, food stalls, and entertainment. This week-long festival takes place every December and draws large crowds from across the region.
The enhancements to Kankaria Zoo are expected to make it more appealing to visitors while ensuring better living conditions for the animals. The AMC is committed to maintaining the zoo and surrounding areas to provide a pleasant experience for everyone. With these changes, Kankaria Zoo will continue to be a beloved destination for families and nature lovers in Ahmedabad.
