On 26th July, India celebrates Kargil Vijay Diwas, marking the victory of its soldiers in the Kargil War against Pakistan in 1999. This year, the Citizens Society of India organised the ‘Kargil Vijay Kalash Yatra’ to honour the bravery of these soldiers. The journey aims to spread patriotism and the stories of valour across the country.
In Gandhinagar, representatives from the Citizens Society of India met with Gujarat’s Governor, Acharya Devvrat. They shared details about the Yatra, which commenced on 19th May 2025 from Rameswaram in Tamil Nadu. The Yatra includes 26 sacred kalash filled with water from 26 holy rivers, soil from 26 war memorials, and flowers offered by children from all 26 states of India.
The Governor warmly welcomed the 26 sacred kalash and paid floral tributes to the soldiers who sacrificed their lives for the nation. He expressed gratitude towards the armed forces, stating, “The army has served the nation. We are grateful for their sacrifices.”
The Yatra will travel through 12 states and 26 major cities, concluding at the Kargil War Memorial in Dras, Ladakh, on 26th July. A grand memorial service will be held there to honour the fallen soldiers.
The Citizens Society of India has been dedicated to celebrating Kargil Vijay Diwas for the past 25 years. Each year, they present a special ‘Vijay Smriti Chihna’ to notable individuals, aimed at paying respect to the martyrs and inspiring the youth with national pride. At the end of the event, the representatives presented this honour to Governor Acharya Devvrat.
The Kargil War, known as Operation Vijay, was a significant conflict between India and Pakistan in 1999 over the Kargil district of Kashmir. This war showcased the bravery and resilience of Indian soldiers who fought under challenging conditions in high-altitude terrains.
