Landslide at Padmanabh Intersection in Patan Repaired Before Accident Occurred

In Patan city, a landslide occurred on the main road near Padmanabh Chowk due to heavy rainfall. This happened on a Sunday, when the road, which had recently been dug up for pipeline installation by GIDC, sank unexpectedly. A large mound of earth fell on the road, creating a dangerous situation for pedestrians and drivers. The local mayor, Hiralben Parmar, was alerted by a passerby about the incident. She quickly rushed to the site and informed the Road and Building department and GIDC about the situation.

Upon arrival, teams from the municipality and GIDC began work to clear the road using a JCB machine. However, despite the critical situation, police officers stationed at the Padmanabh Chowki failed to assist with traffic management. Mayor Parmar personally approached the police officers to inform them about the diversion needed to ensure traffic flow. Unfortunately, none of the officers left their chairs to help. An Assistant Sub-Inspector even rudely told her that managing the situation was not part of their duty.

This prompted Mayor Parmar to contact the district police chief by mobile phone to report the issue. After receiving instructions from the Superintendent of Police, the officers at Padmanabh Chowki finally realised their responsibilities. They then diverted one side of the highway and managed traffic effectively.

In light of the police officers’ initial lack of cooperation, Mayor Parmar has requested disciplinary action against them from the district police chief. Meanwhile, the team managed to clear the mound of earth after three hours of hard work, reopening both sides of the road.

This incident highlights the importance of prompt action and cooperation between local authorities and law enforcement. The quick response from the municipality prevented what could have been a serious accident on a busy road. Residents are relieved that no one was harmed and appreciate the efforts taken to restore normalcy quickly. The situation serves as a reminder of the challenges posed by weather conditions and the need for effective communication between different departments during emergencies.
