On June 12, a tragic plane crash in Ahmedabad claimed the life of former Chief Minister of Gujarat, Vijay Rupani. His body was brought to Rajkot, where a somber atmosphere prevailed. When Rupani’s body was taken from the airport to his residence, large crowds lined the roads, showering flowers as a final goodbye. The body also reached the Shri Poojit Memorial Trust, where more people paid their respects.
The plane crash resulted in the unfortunate deaths of 278 people, including 241 passengers. Following DNA sample matches, Rupani’s body was handed over to his family at 11:30 AM on June 16. His remains were then flown by charter plane to Rajkot for the final rites.
Following the news of Rupani’s death, political leaders rushed to his residence in Gandhinagar to offer condolences to his wife, Anjali Rupani. His son, Rishabh, who lives in the United States, was en route to Ahmedabad to join the family. Meanwhile, Anjali Rupani arrived in Ahmedabad from London on a special chartered flight.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also expressed his condolences to Rupani’s family. He visited to console Anjali Rupani and shared memories of working with Rupani over the years. Modi described Rupani as hardworking and dedicated, and highlighted his commitment to the BJP’s ideology.
The plane crash occurred when an Air India flight crashed into a hostel building near the Civil Hospital in Ahmedabad. Reports indicate the death toll could rise as search operations continued. More bodies were found in the wreckage days after the incident, increasing the total fatalities to 275.
In a tragic twist, Rupani had planned to travel to London to meet his daughter but had cancelled previous trips. He finally booked a ticket for June 12, the day of the crash. His unfortunate fate raises questions about the timing of the trip.
Rupani was actively involved in the BJP’s preparations for the upcoming Punjab Assembly elections. His sudden death has left his colleagues and supporters in shock, with many expressing disbelief at his passing.
