In Godhra, a female lawyer has filed a complaint against two male lawyers for harassment. The incident took place outside her office near the Panchmahal District Sessions Court. According to reports, unknown individuals have been urinating near her office door. This situation has forced her to clean the area daily. On May 28, 2025, a bag filled with urine was hung at her office door, prompting her to file a complaint with the police.
On May 30, 2025, one of the lawyers from a nearby office, Mrunal Chandrakant Chauhan, was heard shouting. He was calling out to a junior lawyer, stating that he would grab the senior lawyer by the hair and beat him. This confrontation escalated quickly. Another lawyer, Ashutosh Naranbhai Patel, arrived on the scene and admitted to urinating there, saying, “Do whatever you want.” He and Mrunal then used derogatory terms related to gender towards the female lawyer.
The complaint outlines that the female lawyer has been followed and harassed by these individuals. They have also threatened her junior colleague, telling her not to come to court. The harassment does not stop there; when junior lawyers visit their office, they are often stopped in the doorway and subjected to conversations that include offensive remarks about the female lawyer’s gender.
This case, involving public urination and gender-based insults outside a lawyer’s office, has sparked discussions in the legal community of Godhra. It raises critical questions about harassment and respect within the legal profession. The female lawyer’s situation highlights the challenges women face in a predominantly male environment, especially in professions like law where respect and dignity are essential.
The actions of the two male lawyers not only disrespect the female lawyer but also undermine the integrity of their profession. The legal community is watching closely as this case unfolds, hoping for a resolution that reinforces the importance of treating all lawyers, regardless of gender, with respect.
Such incidents remind us that more efforts are needed to ensure that the legal profession is inclusive and respectful. Women lawyers should feel safe and supported in their workplaces. The Godhra case is a call to action for legal institutions to address harassment and create a safer environment for all legal professionals.
