In a significant operation, Gujarat police seized a large quantity of Afghan charas, valued at around ₹16 crores, from the coastal area of Dwarka. This high-quality hashish, made from cannabis grown in Afghanistan, was discovered during a routine patrol by the coastal security team. The police found three plastic bags containing 30 packets of the drug, each weighing about one kilogram. This adds up to a total weight of 32.05 kilos of prohibited charas.
The police have intensified their patrols along the coast, covering a 50-kilometre stretch that includes 10 to 12 villages. This action comes after a similar seizure in April, where police confiscated one kilogram of hashish worth ₹52 lakhs from the same coastal area.
Deputy Superintendent of Police, Hardik Prajapati, confirmed that a case has been registered against unknown individuals under various sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. He stated, “We have become active since the first packet was found and are working with the coastal security forces to monitor the area.”
The police are not only focusing on immediate drug seizures but are also aiming to gather intelligence on suspicious activities related to drug trafficking along the coastline. They are using drone cameras for surveillance to enhance their effectiveness in combating drug smuggling.
Dwarka is not new to drug-related incidents. The area has often been a target for drug smugglers who attempt to introduce illegal substances into Gujarat. The coastal landscape provides a strategic advantage for these traffickers, making it challenging for law enforcement to monitor every movement.
