In a significant operation, the State Monitoring Cell (SMC) has seized a large quantity of foreign liquor in Morbi, Gujarat. The total value of the seized liquor is estimated to be ₹92.69 lakhs. The operation took place on the Malaya-Jamnagar highway, where the SMC team intercepted a truck carrying the illegal consignment.

The police arrested the truck driver, Bhavesh Mori, and the cleaner, Leela Mori. Both suspects are residents of Darede village in Jamnagar. The SMC team acted on a tip-off, leading them to stop the truck for inspection late at night. During the search, they discovered that the liquor was hidden under sacks of husk.

A total of 7,213 bottles of liquor were confiscated. In addition to the liquor, the police seized 200 sacks of husk worth ₹2.91 lakhs, the truck itself valued at ₹20 lakhs, cash, and a mobile phone. The total value of the confiscated goods exceeds ₹1.15 crores.

Further investigations revealed names of other individuals involved in the smuggling operation. During interrogation, the arrested suspects mentioned Arjan Kodyatar from Ranpar village and Bharat alias Jigo Soman Kodyatar from Timbadi village in the Devbhumi Dwarka district.

The Malaya police have filed a complaint against eight individuals, including the truck owner and two unknown persons who allegedly supplied the liquor from Punjab. The authorities are now working to apprehend the other suspects involved in this illegal liquor trade.

This operation is part of a broader effort by the SMC to combat the illegal liquor trade in Gujarat. The police have been consistently cracking down on bootleggers who have been using various tactics to smuggle liquor into the state.

Gujarat has strict prohibition laws, making the illegal trade of alcohol a serious crime. The SMC has been particularly active in recent months, implementing strategies to monitor and intercept illegal shipments.

The operation in Morbi highlights the ongoing challenges faced by law enforcement in curbing illicit liquor trade. With the festive season approaching, the police are on high alert, aiming to prevent the distribution of illegal alcohol during celebrations.

The SMC’s recent success in Morbi is a crucial step in their mission to maintain law and order in the region. Authorities are urging citizens to report any suspicious activities related to liquor smuggling. Together, they aim to create a safer environment free from illegal activities.
