In the Gawadi area of Disa, Gujarat, a man was arrested with 830 grams of marijuana. This action was taken by the Banaskantha police based on a tip-off. The police seized drugs worth ₹9,300 from the suspect. This incident occurred amid rising concerns about drug trafficking in the region.
The police had received instructions from Chirag Kordiya, the police superintendent of the Kutch-Bhuj border range, and Akshayraj Makwana, the Banaskantha district police chief. They were tasked with cracking down on the sale and trafficking of narcotics as part of the NDPS (Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances) drive.
Following these instructions, Inspector H.B. Dhandhalya and A.G. Rabari from the Palanpur SOG (Special Operations Group) conducted a patrol in the Disa city area south of the police station. During this patrol, they received private information from constable Dineshbhai Laxmanbhai about a man named Yakubbhai Azimbhai Sheikh. He was reportedly selling marijuana from his residence near the Idgah in Gawadi.
Acting swiftly on this tip-off, the police planned an NDPS raid. During the operation, they found 830 grams of marijuana at Yakubbhai Sheikh’s home, valued at around ₹8,300. Additionally, police seized a keypad mobile phone worth ₹1,000, a copy of an Aadhaar card, a light bill, and a tax receipt from the Disa municipality, bringing the total value of the confiscated items to ₹9,300.
Yakubbhai Sheikh was arrested, and legal action was initiated under narcotics laws. A case has been registered at the Disa city south police station, and further investigation is ongoing. This incident highlights the ongoing efforts by law enforcement to combat drug-related crimes in Gujarat, which have been on the rise in recent years.
Disa is an important city in the Banaskantha district of Gujarat, known for its agricultural activities, particularly potato farming. The city has a rich history and is well-connected by road and rail. It serves as a hub for various agricultural research initiatives, including potato crop improvement projects.
The local police’s proactive approach in tackling drug trafficking demonstrates their commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of the community. Authorities urge citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities related to drugs or other illegal substances. The NDPS drive aims to create a safer environment for all residents of the region.
