Massive Liquor Seizure in Porbandar: Over 11,000 Bottles Confiscated

In Porbandar, Gujarat, police have made a significant liquor seizure. They confiscated over 11,000 bottles of foreign liquor worth around ₹35 lakh (approximately £42,000). The operation took place late at night in the Bokhira area, where police received a tip-off about illegal liquor trafficking.

The authorities acted swiftly, raiding a plot belonging to the Rabari community. They discovered a truck loaded with foreign liquor. The liquor was being transferred into a Bolero vehicle. During the raid, police seized the truck, the Bolero, and three mobile phones, resulting in a total confiscation valued at ₹66 lakh (about £79,000).

Two suspects were arrested during the operation. They were identified as Deva Jetha Kodinaytar and Karman Raiya Kodyatar. Both admitted that the liquor was sourced from Deva Lada Maru, a local resident involved in the illegal trade. However, they claimed not to know the drivers of the vehicles.

The police found liquor bottles hidden under cement bags in the truck. Due to the presence of local residents nearby, police decided to transport the suspects and vehicles to the Udyog Nagar police station for safety before counting the bottles.

The total count revealed 11,868 bottles of liquor, valued at ₹35,54,932. Additionally, the truck was worth ₹25 lakh, the Bolero ₹5 lakh, and the mobile phones ₹3 lakh, summing up to ₹66,54,932.

This incident highlights ongoing issues with illegal liquor trafficking in Gujarat, despite the state’s prohibition laws. Police in Porbandar have been intensifying their efforts to combat such illegal activities. They have been conducting regular patrols and raids in the region. The recent operation is part of a broader crackdown on illegal liquor production and distribution.

In a related effort, the Porbandar police launched a prohibition drive aimed at eradicating illegal liquor operations in the district. During this drive, they discovered three local distilleries in the Burda Dungar area and destroyed a significant quantity of illegal liquor.

The police have committed to continue their efforts to curb illegal liquor activities in the region, ensuring that those involved in the trade are brought to justice. The community is urged to report any suspicious activities, as cooperation from locals can greatly assist in these law enforcement efforts.
