In a major move against illegal constructions, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) conducted a large-scale demolition operation in the Bapunagar area early this morning. This action took place on May 29, 2025, specifically in the Akbar Nagar locality, near the Ajit Mill Crossroads and behind the SP office. During this operation, more than 450 structures, including temporary huts and small buildings, were demolished within just two hours.
The demolition involved five JCB machines and over eight Hitachi excavators. This swift action follows prior notices from the AMC, which instructed residents to vacate their properties. In 2014, the AMC allocated alternative housing to 221 families in the Vatva area. However, 76 of those families continued to reside in the Bapunagar area until today.
The demolition operation began at dawn under heavy police supervision. Teams from the North Zone of the AMC’s estate department worked diligently to clear the area of debris. Following the demolition, plans are in place for the AMC to erect walls to prevent future illegal constructions.
