A mock drill called “Operation Shield” will take place in Patan district. This event is set for the evening of May 29, 2025, from 5 PM to 8 PM, as instructed by the central government. The drill will cover a total of 18 locations, including five municipalities, five sensitive areas, and eight border villages. These locations are critical for ensuring the safety of the citizens.
During the drill, there will be a complete blackout between 8 PM and 8:30 PM. This means that all street lights and shops must turn off their lights for the duration of the blackout. Collector Tushar Kumar Bhatt mentioned that this exercise is part of civil defense efforts to protect citizens. It is designed to prepare for possible emergency situations, such as missile or drone attacks.
The drill will involve activities like evacuating injured citizens and providing first aid. Volunteers who have received civil defense training are encouraged to join. The local authorities hope that more citizens will participate, as this will help foster community preparedness.
The areas participating in the mock drill include the BPCAL terminal and IOCAL terminal in Siddhpur, as well as the GIDC in Siddhpur. The municipalities involved are Patan, Chanasma, Harij, and Radhanpur. Additionally, the IOCAL pipeline unit and the HPCL pumping station in Santhalpur will also be part of this exercise.
This initiative aims to enhance the readiness of the district in case of a real emergency. The civil defense team will simulate various emergency scenarios to test the response capabilities of local authorities and citizens. The exercise will not only assess the effectiveness of the emergency response but also help educate citizens about safety protocols during crises.
People living in these regions are encouraged to stay informed and be aware of their surroundings during the drill. The cooperation of all residents is vital for the success of the operation, as it will help ensure that everyone knows what to do in a real emergency.
As the drill approaches, residents are urged to follow the instructions provided by local authorities. This includes participating actively and adhering to the blackout rules on the day of the exercise. The government hopes that such initiatives will lead to a safer community and better preparedness for unforeseen events.
