In a remarkable achievement, a talented young archer from Nadiad has put her city and state on the map. Maitri Padhiyar, a 12th-grade student, trained at the Nadiad Sports Complex, showcased her skills at the Alpomish and Barchinoy 3rd International Archery Tournament held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, from May 15 to May 20, 2025. She won a gold and a silver medal, bringing pride to Nadiad, Gujarat, and the entire nation.
Maitri trained under experienced coaches including Omprakash, Sandeep Jaiswal, Mahendrasingh Sardar, and Payal Rathva. Her journey began in her hometown of Dhotta village in Banaskantha district, where she first picked up the bow and arrow through the Gujarat government’s D.L.S.S. scheme in Himmatnagar. Under the guidance of her initial coach, Harishchandra Rathva, she developed her archery skills and caught the attention of selectors at the Nadiad Sports Complex in 2022.
Maitri has become the youngest archer in Gujarat to win international medals, marking a significant milestone in her career. The sports complex in charge, Dr. Mansukh Taveethiya, and the Kheda District Sports Development Officer congratulated her on this outstanding achievement.
