The National Defence University (RRU) and the Nagaland Police have signed a significant Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at promoting smart policing through advanced training, research, and innovation. This agreement marks a vital step towards building a secure and smart Northeast region. The MoU was signed during an online ceremony attended by key officials from both institutions.
Representing RRU were Pro. (Dr.) Bimal N. Patel, Vice-Chancellor; Pro. (Dr.) Kalpesh H. Vandra, Pro-Vice-Chancellor; Dr. Dharmeshkumar D. Prajapati, Registrar; Dr. Jasbir Kaur Thadhani, University Dean; and Mr. Bhavani Singh Rathod, Director in charge of the SISSP. The Nagaland Police was represented by Shri Rupin Sharma, IPS, DGP; Shri Sandeep Tamgadge, IPS, ADG (Law and Order); Shri R. Kikon, IPS, ADG (Admin); and Shri R. Tetseo, IPS, IG (Training).
This partnership outlines a comprehensive framework for cooperation, particularly focused on the needs of the Northeast region. It will include technology-driven solutions, educational partnerships, and the development of projects. RRU will provide specific, state-specific training programs to equip Nagaland Police officers with the necessary skills and knowledge to address contemporary challenges in law enforcement.
Training will be linked to government schemes, ensuring alignment with national priorities and resource allocation. The collaboration between RRU and Nagaland Police aims to modernise law enforcement practices and promote a secure, smart Northeast region. The focus areas of this cooperation include:
1. **Advanced Training:** RRU will offer tailored training programs to meet the specific needs of the Nagaland Police, covering areas such as crime investigation, cyber security, and community policing.
2. **Research and Innovation:** Joint research projects will be initiated to identify and implement innovative solutions addressing emerging challenges in law enforcement.
3. **Technology Integration:** The partnership will encourage the adoption of technology-based solutions to enhance operational efficiency and effectiveness.
4. **Northeast-Centric Projects:** Specific projects will be developed to address unique security challenges and priorities in the Northeast region.
All necessary training and associated activities will be conducted under government schemes. Pro. (Dr.) Bimal N. Patel, RRU’s Vice-Chancellor, highlighted the university’s commitment to delivering practical training programs. He encouraged the nomination of IT-centric officers from Nagaland Police to enhance research capabilities at RRU, aiming to develop IT solutions and applications that support police work.
Shri Rupin Sharma, DGP of Nagaland Police, welcomed this partnership, stating that the MoU will provide invaluable support, enabling police officers to become smart officers. He emphasised the importance of collaboration in enhancing the capabilities of the Nagaland Police force.
Through this partnership, both institutions aim to tackle the unique challenges faced by law enforcement in the region, ensuring a safer and more efficient policing environment. The collaboration signifies a progressive step towards a modern police force equipped to handle contemporary issues effectively.
