National Defence University Partners with Nagaland Police for Smart Policing

The National Defence University (RRU) has signed a landmark agreement with the Nagaland Police to advance smart policing through modern training, research, and innovation. This Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed this week, marking a significant step towards creating a secure and smart northeastern region of India. The online signing event was attended by key officials from both institutions.

Representatives from RRU included Prof. (Dr.) Bimal N. Patel, Vice-Chancellor; Prof. (Dr.) Kalpesh H. Vandra, Pro-Vice-Chancellor; Dr. Dharmeshkumar D. Prajapati, Registrar; Dr. Jasbirkaur Thadhani, University Dean; and Shri Bhavani Singh Rathod, Director In-Charge of the SISSP. The Nagaland Police was represented by Shri Rupin Sharma, IPS, DGP; Shri Sandeep Tamgadge, IPS, ADGP (Law and Order); Shri R. Kikon, IPS, ADGP (Admin); and Shri R. Tetseo, IPS, IG (Training).

This agreement provides a framework for collaboration, focusing on technology-driven solutions tailored to the needs of the northeastern region. It includes educational partnerships and project development aimed at enhancing the skills and knowledge of Nagaland Police officers. The training programs will be designed to equip them to handle contemporary law enforcement challenges effectively.

The partnership aims to modernise law enforcement practices and promote a safe and smart northeastern region. It will focus on several key areas:

1. **Advanced Training**: RRU will provide specific training programs tailored to the needs of the Nagaland Police, covering areas such as crime investigation, cyber security, and community policing.

2. **Research and Innovation**: Joint research projects will identify and implement innovative solutions to address emerging law enforcement challenges.

3. **Technology Integration**: The partnership will promote the adoption of technology-driven solutions to enhance operational efficiency and effectiveness.

4. **Northeast-Centric Projects**: Specific projects will be developed to address unique security challenges and priorities in the northeastern region.

Prof. (Dr.) Bimal N. Patel highlighted RRU’s commitment to providing state-specific training programs and practical education. He encouraged the Nagaland Police to nominate IT-centric officers for research opportunities, aiming to develop IT solutions and applications that will support their operations. He expressed satisfaction with the agreement, stating it would play a vital role in strengthening the skills and expertise of Nagaland Police officers.

Shri Rupin Sharma, DGP of Nagaland Police, welcomed the partnership and said that this MoU would provide invaluable support, enabling police officers to become smart officers. He emphasized the importance of cooperation in enhancing the capabilities of the Nagaland Police force.
