The Speaker of the Gujarat Assembly, Shankarbhai Chaudhary, inaugurated a new administrative building in Tharad. The building cost ₹13.28 crore and is equipped with various facilities. The inauguration ceremony was held in Tharad, where Mr. Chaudhary highlighted the ongoing efforts of the state government to develop the Tharad region. He mentioned that the government is always there for the farmers and cares about the people in remote areas.
During the event, he appealed to farmers to adopt micro-irrigation methods to save both water and land. He encouraged them to conserve every drop of water and support Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Catch the Rain’ campaign. The Speaker stressed the importance of water conservation projects to ensure that the water from the village stays in the village and the water from the fields stays in the fields.
Mr. Chaudhary also made a significant announcement regarding the release of Narmada water into the branch canal of the Tharad area on May 22, 2025. He stated that this initiative would benefit farmers and livestock during the summer heat. He emphasized that water from the Narmada River is not just water but a blessing.
The new administrative building will house 187 officers and employees from the Sardar Sarovar Narmada Nigam Limited. The project started in 2023 and is aimed at improving irrigation facilities for over 130,000 hectares in the Tharad, Vav, Bhabhar, and Suigam areas of Banaskantha district.
The Speaker urged farmers to use micro-irrigation techniques to combat soil salinity and preserve the quality of farmland. He also pressed the Narmada Nigam to ensure timely water supply. It is the duty of every farmer to deposit money for water with the Narmada Nigam, he stated.
The inauguration of this building marks a significant step towards enhancing administrative efficiency and promoting agricultural development in Tharad. With improved infrastructure, the local government aims to better serve the needs of the community and support the agricultural sector in the region. The efforts of the Gujarat government, led by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, are focused on ensuring that development reaches the most remote areas, helping to uplift the standard of living for all residents.
In conclusion, the new administrative building is expected to play a crucial role in the development of Tharad and surrounding areas. With the state government’s commitment to farmers and the ongoing initiatives to improve irrigation and water management, the future looks promising for agriculture in this region.
