In a bid to promote green mobility, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways in India has proposed a new system for registering hydrogen-powered vehicles. This initiative aims to make it easier for the public and authorities to identify these eco-friendly vehicles. The new registration plates will feature a combination of green and blue backgrounds. The colour of the text on the plates will change according to the type of vehicle.
According to a draft notification released recently, commercial hydrogen vehicles will have a number plate that is green on the top half and blue on the bottom half. The text will be in yellow. For private hydrogen vehicles, the design will be similar, but the text will be white instead of yellow. Rental cabs that run on hydrogen will have a unique design as well. Their plates will feature a black upper half and a blue lower half, with yellow lettering.
This colour-coding system is aimed at improving the visibility of hydrogen-powered vehicles on the roads. The idea is to create a clear distinction between different types of vehicles, making it easier for everyone to identify them. This is especially important as India moves towards cleaner energy sources and aims to reduce its dependence on fossil fuels.
The government believes that hydrogen is a key part of its strategy for green mobility.
