On May 4, 2023, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate six newly developed railway stations in Gujarat through video conferencing. This event is part of the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, which aims to enhance railway infrastructure across the country. The stations that will be inaugurated include Okha, Mithapur, Kanalus, Jamvanthli, Hapa, and Morbi.
The renovation of these stations is crucial for improving passenger services and overall experience. The total development of these six stations has been completed under this scheme, with various modern facilities added. This includes upgrades to existing structures to better serve the needs of travellers.
Hapa railway station, located in Jamnagar, is known for handling several express passenger trains. The Saurashtra Express and Saurashtra Mail are among the trains that stop at Hapa. The station has been revitalised with a budget of ₹1.79 crores. Improvements include a better platform surface, new covered sheds, facilities for differently-abled passengers, new air-conditioned waiting areas, and upgraded toilet blocks. Parking space has also been developed to enhance the overall convenience for visitors.
Jamvanthli station, situated 31 kilometres from Jamnagar, serves both passenger and superfast trains. Its redevelopment has been funded with ₹3.04 crores under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme. This station is also set to offer improved amenities for travellers.
The initiative is part of a broader effort by the Indian government to modernise railway infrastructure and improve passenger experiences. With the opening of these stations, the railway network in Gujarat is expected to see better connectivity and efficiency.
In addition to the station upgrades, the Western Railway also announced changes in the train timetable for the Ahmedabad division starting January 1, 2025. This new timetable aims to increase the speed of certain trains, allowing them to reach their destinations earlier than before. As a result, 95 trains will have improved speeds, and 48 trains will see their travel times reduced by up to 65 minutes.
Passengers can expect to benefit from these changes as they will spend less time on their journeys. The new timetable will affect various stations in the Ahmedabad division, including Gandhinagar, Mehsana, and Bhuj, among others. This will ensure that travellers are well-informed and can plan their trips accordingly.
The government is keen on ensuring that the railway services are efficient, safe, and accessible for all. The upgrades to the railway stations, along with the new train schedules, reflect this commitment.
