In Ahmedabad, the Shahpur education committee has launched a special initiative to distribute notebooks and writing pads. This event will take place on May 7 at Bhavsaar Hall, Shahpur, starting at 9:00 AM. It aims to support students from Sanatani families living in old Shahpur ward, who hold a Shahpur Aadhar card. For only 10 rupees, each student will receive 10 notebooks and 10 writing pads.
This year marks the fourth consecutive year of this noble service, blessed by Lord Jagannath. Today, the release of these educational materials was conducted by the head priest of Jagannath Temple, Dileepdasji Maharaj. During the ceremony, he praised the committee’s ongoing efforts to support education, especially during these challenging times. He urged the children to take full advantage of these educational resources to build a bright future.
Dr. Jagdish Bhavsare, former chairman of the school board in Ahmedabad and former vice-chancellor of Gujarat University, also spoke at the event. He highlighted the critical role of community support in continuing this educational service for needy families, especially since the pandemic began.
Over 1,000 students will benefit from this educational encouragement initiative. The main goal of the campaign is to ensure that “everyone learns, everyone progresses, and the Kot area shines.” The event also saw the presence of dedicated volunteers and workers, including Dharmendra Pandya (Sudama) and others who have worked hard to make this initiative possible.
In addition to the notebook distribution, Shahpur has been active in various educational activities. For instance, a drawing competition focusing on energy conservation was held at Shahpur Primary School, with 25 students participating. All participants received encouragement awards, while the top three winners received special prizes. UGVCL’s Deputy Engineer, Mr S.V. Patel, was present to witness the event, and the children were congratulated by Principal Ashwinbhai Prajapati.
The Shahpur Primary School also organized a winter clothing distribution program in collaboration with the Rotary Supreme Satellite Star Club. This event aimed to provide sweaters, uniforms, and other essential items to underprivileged students, ensuring they stay warm during the winter months. The local community, including the village head and other members, played a significant role in making this program successful.
Moreover, Shahpur Primary School celebrated the 150th birth anniversary of the freedom fighter Birsa Munda. Various dignitaries attended the event, where the school’s principal and teachers delivered speeches about Munda’s life and contributions. This initiative reflects the school’s commitment to educating students about India’s history and culture.
Additionally, the Antyodaya Foundation from Maharashtra, a non-governmental organization, has provided free study materials to 14 primary schools in the Gandhinagar district. This initiative aims to help students prepare for the national-level NMMS exam. In 2024, the foundation plans to distribute 200 free books worth 45,000 rupees to help eighth-grade students excel in their studies.
Finally, the Shahpur Education Committee continues to work tirelessly to enhance the educational landscape of the area. Their efforts not only help students academically but also foster a sense of community and support among families. These initiatives demonstrate the importance of education and the collective responsibility of society to uplift the next generation. By ensuring access to necessary resources, Shahpur’s community is paving the way for a brighter future for its children.
