A high-level meeting was held in Ahmedabad under the chairmanship of Union Home Minister Amit Shah to discuss the recent plane crash involving an Air India flight from Ahmedabad to London. Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel was present at the meeting where crucial information about the incident was shared. Shah praised the coordination and swift action of central and state agencies involved in rescue operations, including police, health services, fire services, and disaster management teams.
During the meeting, Amit Shah reviewed the relief and rescue operations and provided necessary instructions to the officials. Union Minister C.R. Patil, Minister of State for Civil Aviation Jyotiraditya Scindia, and other officials attended the meeting. Shah was informed about the sequence of events related to the plane crash, the rescue operations, and the health services provided to the victims.
Expressing his sorrow over the tragic incident, Shah ordered that all necessary assistance be provided to the affected families. He emphasized that the injured should receive immediate medical care, and arrangements should be made for DNA sampling of the deceased to facilitate identification and ensure secure transportation of the bodies to their homes.
He directed officials to strengthen the DNA matching process, ensuring the crash site remains secure until the full investigation is complete. The official death toll will be announced only after the testing results are available. Shah mentioned that he had also visited the crash site and the process of retrieving the bodies of all passengers was nearly complete. The relatives of those abroad have been informed, and DNA samples will be collected as soon as they arrive.
Approximately 1,000 DNA tests will need to be conducted in Gujarat. Shah assured that the capability to perform these tests exists within the state, eliminating the need to go outside Gujarat for DNA testing. The state’s Forensic Science Laboratory and the National Forensic Science University will work together to complete the DNA tests as quickly as possible, allowing families to receive the bodies of their loved ones.
The Home Minister also visited the hospital to inquire about the condition of injured passengers. He expressed the condolences of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the entire nation to the grieving families.
The state government promptly initiated relief and rescue operations after the incident. A team of 45 doctors, two teams from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), and two teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) were deployed, along with 85 firefighters and more than 75 ambulances.
