In a recent escalation of tensions, Pakistan attempted to target the Golden Temple in Amritsar. This incident occurred on the nights of May 7 and 8. However, the Indian Army successfully thwarted this plan. Reports reveal that Pakistan had intentions to launch strikes across several cities in India.
Under Operation Sindoor, India took decisive action against terrorist bases in Pakistan. In response, Pakistan launched a series of drone and missile attacks. Thankfully, India’s robust air defense system neutralised all of Pakistan’s attempts. On Monday, the Indian Army demonstrated how the advanced air defense systems, including the N-70 Air Defense Gun, helped protect the Golden Temple and other cities in Punjab from these threats.
Major General Karthik C. Sheshadri, General Officer Commanding of the 15th Infantry Division, stated that the Indian military was well aware of Pakistan’s strategy to target military installations, civilians, and religious sites, with the Golden Temple being a primary target.
General Sheshadri disclosed that on May 8, Pakistan attempted a significant aerial assault using drones and long-range missiles. He affirmed, “We were fully prepared and successfully countered every attack from Pakistan.” He noted the urgency of the situation, saying, “Pakistan had intensified its aerial assaults. They used drones alongside long-range missiles. We were ready for every strike they made.”
The situation escalated when Pakistan tried to hit the Golden Temple with missiles and drones. However, the Indian defense forces dismantled all of their attacks. General Sheshadri emphasised that they were aware that the Pakistan Army had no legitimate targets and intended to strike at Indian military positions, civilians, and religious sites, with the Golden Temple being the most significant among them.
To further protect the Golden Temple, an additional air defense system was installed. General Sheshadri elaborated on the assault that occurred early on May 8, stating, “Pakistan conducted a substantial aerial attack using unmanned aerial vehicles, primarily drones, and long-range missiles. We expected this and were completely prepared.”
It is significant to note that due to the rising tensions between India and Pakistan, the lights of the Golden Temple were temporarily turned off as a precaution during the recent military drills. This incident highlights the ongoing security challenges in the region and the importance of vigilance in safeguarding key cultural and religious sites like the Golden Temple.
