In Panchmahal district, the suspected Chandipura virus is causing alarm. In just seven days, four cases have been reported, leading to the tragic deaths of three children. These children showed no symptoms of the virus, but passed away due to fever and convulsions. All patients were admitted to Sayaji Hospital in Vadodara. One child from Dokwa village in Godhra taluka is currently receiving treatment for fever and convulsions. A sample has been sent for testing.
Given the seriousness of the situation, a health team from Puducherry and a team from the National Institute of Virology in Pune have arrived in Panchmahal. They are working alongside the state health department to investigate the virus’s spread, its causes, and measures to control it. Samples are being collected for further analysis.
The Chandipura virus primarily affects children and can lead to severe illness. Symptoms include fever, headaches, vomiting, diarrhea, and in some cases, brain swelling. The virus is transmitted by mosquito bites, and its risk increases during the monsoon season. People are advised to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions to avoid the virus.
District health officials are urging parents to protect their children from mosquito bites. They are also advising residents to maintain cleanliness around their homes and ensure that water does not collect in open areas, as stagnant water can be a breeding ground for mosquitoes. Awareness and prevention are key to tackling this health crisis in Panchmahal.
