Patan District Set for Gram Panchayat Elections on June 22

The Patan district in Gujarat is preparing for its upcoming Gram Panchayat elections scheduled for June 22, 2025. A total of 1,308 nomination forms were submitted for the position of Sarpanch, out of which 1,296 were found valid. The State Election Commission has announced elections for 380 Gram Panchayats, with 320 Sarpanch positions and 2,731 member positions available.

In the elections, 94 Sarpanch candidates and 1,960 members will be elected unopposed. Among the candidates, 625 are vying for the Sarpanch positions while 1,225 are contesting for the member positions. Currently, in Patan, out of the 380 Gram Panchayats, 70 have been declared completely unopposed (Samras) while 78 are partially unopposed. The remaining 232 Gram Panchayats will have elections on June 22, 2025, for 224 Sarpanch positions and 563 member positions.

The district has set up 606 polling stations, where an estimated 511,943 voters will cast their votes. A total of 648 ballot boxes will be used during the elections. The election will see the deployment of approximately 3,394 polling staff and 1,198 police personnel to ensure a smooth voting process. Out of the total polling stations, 299 have been classified as sensitive, and adequate police arrangements will be made at these locations.

Counting of votes will take place on June 25, 2025, across nine different counting venues in the district. The Gram Panchayat elections are crucial as they empower local self-governance and help in the development of rural areas. Residents are encouraged to participate actively in the electoral process for a stronger community.

Patan district is located in the northern part of Gujarat. The district was formed on October 1, 1997, and it includes parts of Mehsana and Banaskantha districts. The main city, Patan, is known for its rich history and cultural heritage. The district has a population of around 1.3 million, with a literacy rate of 73.74%, making it an important region in the state.
