Patan Prepares for Lord Jagannath's Grand Rath Yatra

Patan city in Gujarat is buzzing with excitement as it prepares for the 143rd Rath Yatra of Lord Jagannath. This grand event will take place on June 27, 2025, and is one of the largest Rath Yatras in northern Gujarat. The local municipality has been busy cleaning the streets to ensure that the route for the procession is clear and welcoming for the thousands of devotees expected to attend.

Under the supervision of Ward Inspector Jigar Prajapati, the municipality has started a thorough cleaning drive. They are removing dirt and debris from the roads, filling in potholes, and ensuring the streets are in good condition. This is important as the Rath Yatra attracts large crowds, and a clean route will help avoid any difficulties during the event.

The cleaning work covers various key areas including the Jagannath Temple, Ambaji Chowk, Bhensatvada, Hinglacha Char Chowk, and several others leading up to the Pipla Gate police station. The municipality has deployed its cleaning staff to remove mud, waste, bricks, and other unnecessary materials from the roads.

On June 21, there will be a special ceremony called the ‘Keri no Manorath’, where devotees will offer mangoes to Lord Jagannath. This is followed by a water procession on June 22, starting from Ganesh Ashram at 9 AM, which will travel through the city, allowing devotees to participate in a joyful celebration.

The Rath Yatra itself will begin with special pujas and a grand procession featuring Lord Jagannath, his brother Balabhadra, and sister Subhadra. The event is not just about the procession; it involves numerous religious and cultural activities organized by the Jagannath Temple Trust and the Rath Yatra committee. Devotional music and traditional performances will accompany the celebrations, creating a festive atmosphere throughout the city.

The Rath Yatra is a significant event for the community, symbolizing devotion and unity among the people of Patan. It is expected to draw devotees from all over the region and beyond, reflecting the deep-rooted traditions and spiritual significance of this occasion.

In addition to the religious festivities, local leaders and politicians are expected to participate, showcasing the event’s importance not just to the local community but to the entire state. The preparations include security measures to ensure the safety of all attendees.

As the day approaches, the enthusiasm among the residents is palpable. Families are preparing to welcome the deity with open hearts and joyful celebrations. This Rath Yatra is not only a religious event but also a cultural gathering that strengthens the bonds of the community.

With the cleaning efforts underway and the detailed plans in place, Patan is set to celebrate this auspicious occasion with great fervour and devotion.
