Residents of Patan are upset with the slow pace of renovation work at the Patan Railway Station. The station serves as a crucial link for many long-distance trains and has seen a rise in passenger numbers due to its proximity to local attractions like the Rani Ki Vav UNESCO World Heritage Site and the Science Centre. Despite the station being a key point for train services to cities like Rajasthan and Mumbai, the ongoing renovation is causing dissatisfaction among the public.
Passengers are particularly frustrated with the limited two-minute stop for vital trains arriving at the station. This short time frame is especially challenging for elderly passengers and those with luggage. For instance, the train from Bhavnagar to Haridwar, which passes through Patan, only stops for two minutes. Such a brief stop can lead to difficult situations, as seen recently when a passenger had to pull the emergency chain to stop the train due to difficulty alighting.
Local leaders, including MP Bhart Singh Dabi, have taken note of the public’s complaints. They are advocating for the renovation speed to increase and for train stops to be extended to allow passengers adequate time to board and disembark safely. The current situation has led to several incidents where passengers have struggled to make their connections, raising safety concerns.
The lack of basic facilities at the station is another issue. Platform 2, where many long-distance trains are stationed, lacks essential amenities. Passengers often have to navigate to Platform 1 using a staircase, which is hard to manage with heavy luggage. Additionally, there are no proper exits on the eastern side of the station. This creates further challenges for travelers, particularly when seeking transport like auto-rickshaws.
The Patan Railway Station’s renovation has been a long-awaited project, aimed at enhancing passenger experience. However, many feel that the current pace is insufficient. Passengers expect improvements to be made promptly so that the station can better serve the growing number of visitors.
As Patan continues to attract tourists and residents alike, there is a strong demand for better facilities and services at the railway station. The local population is hopeful that their concerns will be addressed soon, leading to a safer and more efficient travel experience. In light of the ongoing renovation, residents are calling for immediate action to improve the situation and ensure that Patan Railway Station meets the needs of its users effectively.
