PM Modi Offers Condolences to the Family of Late Vijay Rupani

On Thursday afternoon, a tragic plane crash involving an Air India Dreamliner occurred in Ahmedabad. The former Chief Minister of Gujarat, Vijay Rupani, lost his life in this unfortunate incident. Rupani was travelling to London to meet his wife and children when the accident took place.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived at Ahmedabad airport at around 8:30 AM. He visited the accident site at approximately 9 AM to assess the situation. Afterward, he went to a civil hospital to meet the injured victims of the crash. The Prime Minister spoke with a young survivor who was rescued from the wreckage.

PM Modi then met the family of Vijay Rupani to express his condolences. He shared heartfelt words, stating, “It is hard to accept that Vijaybhai is no longer with us. I have shared a bond with him for many years. We worked shoulder to shoulder during challenging times. Vijaybhai was dedicated and committed to the party’s ideology. He started his career as a grassroots worker and rose to become the Chief Minister of Gujarat.”

Vijay Rupani served as Chief Minister from 2016 to 2021 and was known for his dedication to the people of Gujarat. His contributions to the state’s development, especially in improving the ease of living for its residents, are highly regarded. The Prime Minister recalled their meetings and discussions, saying they will always be remembered.

The final rites for Vijay Rupani are expected to take place in his hometown of Rajkot. His wife, Anjali Rupani, has already reached Gandhinagar following the tragic news. Discussions about the funeral arrangements are ongoing, especially with the arrival of their son, Rishabh, who is currently travelling from the USA to Gujarat. Rishabh is expected to arrive early tomorrow morning.

In Rajkot, Congress spokesperson Rohitsinh Rajput has appealed to the people to observe a voluntary half-day shutdown in memory of Rupani. The appeal aims to honour Rupani’s contributions to the community, especially through the charitable trust he established to help families in need.

The city of Rajkot is preparing for the arrival of Vijay Rupani’s body, with local businesses and citizens expected to close in tribute to his work and legacy. The funeral is planned to proceed after the necessary DNA tests are completed to confirm identity.

Vijay Rupani was born on August 2, 1956, in Yangon, Myanmar. He was the youngest of seven siblings in a Jain family. The family moved to Rajkot in 1960. Rupani began his political career as a student leader and was associated with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and later joined the Janata Party. He was an integral part of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) since its formation and held various roles throughout his career.

His leadership in the Rajkot Municipal Corporation and his role as a Member of the Legislative Assembly showcased his commitment to public service. Rupani was known for his ability to connect with the people and address their concerns effectively. He played a significant role in several developmental initiatives during his tenure as Chief Minister.

As the news of his passing spreads, many from across the state and beyond have come forward to pay their respects.
