Police Capture Diamond Robbers in Surat After 17-Day Watch

In a dramatic turn of events, Surat police successfully apprehended two diamond robbers after a 17-day surveillance operation. The case began when employees of R. Mahendra Angadiya, a diamond courier service, became victims of a robbery valued at Rs. 24.10 lakh. The incident occurred on June 16 at around 11:45 PM on Varachha Road, where a delivery man, Praful Parshottam Patel, was targeted. The robbers, disguised as ordinary citizens, stole a parcel containing diamonds and gold worth a total of Rs. 24.10 lakh.

The police acted swiftly, deploying a team to Rajasthan after identifying the suspects as Rajsthani. Officers disguised themselves in traditional Marwari attire to blend in with the local population. Their undercover work paid off when they identified the robbers’ hideouts in Jhalawar and Jodhpur, Rajasthan. Authorities managed to track the suspects and apprehended Balwant Singh alias Ballu Nensing Rajput and Bhwanis Singh alias Bhamasa Tansi Rajput.

The investigation revealed that the robbery was carefully planned. Just before the incident, another employee of the same courier service had been attacked and robbed of Rs. 16.56 lakh worth of diamonds at the same location. This led police to believe that the two incidents were connected, prompting them to intensify their efforts.

For 17 days, the police maintained a watch on the suspects, gathering crucial evidence and intelligence. The operation demonstrated the commitment of the Varachha police team, which included PSI V. D. Mali, Vijay Singh, Lalabhai, and Sandeep Bhai. Their determination and strategic planning ultimately led to the successful capture of the suspects.

This case has raised concerns over security in the diamond district of Surat, known for its bustling diamond trade. Authorities are now looking into improving security measures for courier services to prevent future robberies. The police have urged local businesses and delivery services to enhance their security protocols to avoid becoming easy targets for criminals.

The diamond industry in Surat, a key player in the global diamond market, is vital to the city’s economy. With an estimated 90% of the world’s diamonds being processed in Surat, incidents like these can have significant implications for the industry’s reputation and security. The police are committed to ensuring safety and security in this thriving sector, stating that they will continue to work hard to protect businesses and their employees from criminal activities.

As the investigation continues, authorities are also looking into potential links to other criminal activities in the region. The arrest of the two suspects is seen as a significant victory for the Surat police, reflecting their dedication to combating crime and keeping the community safe.

In conclusion, the swift response and undercover operation by the police have successfully brought the suspects to justice, ensuring that the diamond trade in Surat can continue to flourish without the fear of such violent crimes. The police are hopeful that this case will serve as a deterrent to other potential criminals in the area.
