The district police have taken measures to ensure safety during the upcoming Rath Yatra in Patan, Gujarat. Led by the district police chief, more than 30 officers and around 500 police personnel participated in a flag march on Monday. This march covered the routes for the 143rd Rath Yatra of Lord Jagannath, which is set to take place on June 27. The police aim to maintain law and order during this important religious event.
The Rath Yatra is a significant event for the local community. It involves the movement of the chariot of Lord Jagannath through the streets of Patan, drawing many devotees. The police chief stated that drone cameras will monitor sensitive areas along the route. These cameras will help ensure that everything remains peaceful and safe throughout the procession.
In addition to drone surveillance, the police are also enhancing lighting in areas that lack adequate illumination. The goal is to create a secure environment for both participants and spectators. The procession is expected to cover approximately 6 kilometers, and the police have begun preparations to make sure everything runs smoothly.
The Rath Yatra will feature various religious festivities, organized by the Jagannath Temple Trust and Rath Yatra Committee. Media representatives were briefed about the events planned for the Yatra at a gathering held at the temple complex. The managing trustee of the temple trust, Piyush Acharya, shared details of the scheduled activities.
On June 21, a ceremonial offering of mangoes will take place, known as ‘Manorath.’ This event is part of the lead-up to the main Yatra. On June 22, the water procession will start from Ganesh Ashram, moving through the city and returning to the temple for a special ritual. The water used in this ritual will be blessed by learned Brahmins.
The events will continue with a ‘Netrotsav’ on June 22, where traditional healing rituals for Lord Jagannath will occur. This includes bathing the deity’s eyes with a variety of natural substances, symbolising care and devotion from the community.
Further activities include devotional singing and cultural programs leading up to the main event. The police are working closely with various departments to ensure that the Yatra proceeds without any disruptions. They are also addressing potential issues such as stray animals, road conditions, and cleanliness along the route.
The district collector has assured cooperation with the temple trust to maintain order during the Yatra. All necessary arrangements are being made to facilitate a smooth and joyful celebration for the devotees. As the date approaches, both police and community members are preparing to embrace this vibrant festival with enthusiasm and safety in mind.
