A police constable from the Narmada Cyber Cell has been implicated in a massive cyber fraud scheme worth crores of rupees. The incident has raised serious concerns within the Gujarat police department. The constable, Lakshman Chaudhary, is accused of conducting fraud without any complaints from victims. This allowed him to manipulate the system for personal gain.
The fraud came to light when the Narmada district police chief, Prashant Shumbe, received information regarding the irregularities. He promptly assigned the investigation to Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Lokesh Yadav. The investigation revealed that Chaudhary had been working in the Rajpipla police’s cyber cell for over a year. During this time, he used government email IDs to contact banks, requesting them to freeze accounts of individuals without any legitimate complaints.
Each time a bank complied and froze an account, the affected individuals were forced to visit the Rajpipla Cyber Cell to lodge a complaint. Upon their arrival, Chaudhary would demand money from them to help resolve their issues. This corrupt practice was reportedly going on for months.
Following the investigation, Chaudhary was suspended from his duties. The police department has filed a case against him, and legal actions are being pursued. The Narmada district police are taking this matter seriously, as it undermines the integrity of law enforcement.
The case has raised questions about the effectiveness of the cyber cell in addressing cyber fraud complaints. It is crucial for the police department to restore public trust and improve their systems to prevent such incidents in the future.
The ongoing investigation aims to uncover the full extent of Chaudhary’s fraudulent activities and how many victims were affected. Police officials have not yet disclosed the exact amount of money involved in the fraud.
