In Surat, the Athwa police have arrested a gang of fraudulent brides. This gang tricked a young man from Ahmedabad into marriage. The bride’s mother demanded one lakh rupees, claiming the father was absent. The young man paid the amount. However, just the day after the wedding, the bride made an excuse and ran away with her mother. She refused to live with her husband and also did not return the money.
Following the complaint, the police caught the group of women involved. Cases of such deceitful brides have been increasing, alarming families looking for marriage. In the past, such incidents were rare, but they seem to be on the rise now.
In a similar earlier case, a fraudulent bride escaped after robbing her husband in Surat. The 39-year-old woman had previously been divorced and was living in the Yogi Chowk area of Surat. She had a 15-year-old son and wanted to remarry. After discussing with her family, her brother-in-law’s wife sent a photo of a girl via WhatsApp, asking if he liked her to consider marriage.
The divorced man agreed, leading to a meeting with the girl named Sanjana, her friend Jyotibhen, and Vipul Dobariya. Jyotibhen claimed Sanjana was the daughter of her friend, who had passed away. Because of this, Sanjana was living with them. The divorced man and Sanjana spoke and agreed to marry.
During this time, Vipul Bhai asked the divorced man for 1.20 lakh rupees, of which one lakh was for Jyotibhen and 20,000 for other wedding expenses. The divorced man accepted all terms, and preparations for the marriage began. They bought silver chains, gold necklaces, and clothes for the wedding, which took place on June 13, 2024, at the Shankar Bhagwan temple by the Tapi River, with family members present.
This series of events highlights the ongoing issues with fraudulent marriage schemes in the region. Police are urging potential brides and grooms to be cautious and verify backgrounds before proceeding with marriage arrangements. It is essential to ensure that such incidents do not tarnish the sacred institution of marriage, which should be based on trust and mutual respect.
