Police on High Alert After Suspect Escapes from Medical Checkup

In a shocking incident, a suspect in a POCSO case escaped from police custody during a medical checkup at LG Hospital in Maninagar, Ahmedabad. The suspect was one of four individuals arrested under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. They were taken to the hospital for a medical examination before being presented in a special POCSO court. During their visit, a commotion broke out when a patient died in the hospital, leading to a gathering of relatives. Amid this chaos, the suspect managed to evade the attention of the police officers guarding him.

On May 31, the Amraiwadi police had arrested the four suspects, including Valji Solanki, Ramila Solanki, Jaysukh Vaghela, and Kesarben Vaghela. They were taken to the hospital as per the directions of the police station in charge after receiving permission from the head constable, Arvind Bhai Bababhai. Accompanied by constable Sanjay and female police officer Hetalben, they arrived at the hospital in a government vehicle.

As the medical checkup commenced, the doctor asked the police for the suspect’s booking number. At this moment, Valji was seated next to the doctor, while Ramila, Jaysukh, and Kesar were standing close to constable Arvind Bhai. The tense atmosphere escalated when a patient’s relatives crowded the area, causing a distraction.

Utilising this opportunity, Jaysukh managed to slip out of the ward unnoticed. When the crowd thinned, constable Arvind realised that Jaysukh was missing, prompting an immediate search. Despite their efforts, police could not locate him.

A complaint regarding the escape was filed by head constable Arvind Bhai at the Maninagar police station, highlighting the severity of the situation. High-ranking officials have taken serious note of the incident, considering the nature of the charges against the suspect.

The other three suspects were subsequently sent to central jail after the incident. This escape raises significant concerns about police procedures and the safety of individuals in custody. The police are now reviewing security measures to prevent such occurrences in the future and ensure that suspects are safely monitored during medical appointments.

Authorities are urging the public to assist in locating the escaped suspect. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact local police. This incident underscores the challenges faced by law enforcement in managing high-risk offenders and the need for stringent protocols during hospital visits. The police department is committed to enhancing their operational strategies to ensure the safety of the community and accountability for those in custody.
