In a major operation, the Sabarkantha Local Crime Branch (LCB) seized a large quantity of foreign liquor hidden in boxes of Patanjali herbal products. The police acted on a tip-off and intercepted a truck travelling from Rajasthan to Rajkot. The truck, bearing the number GJ.33.T.4531, was stopped near Gambhoi on the Himatnagar-Shamalaji highway. Upon inspection, officers discovered 1,212 bottles of foreign liquor concealed within the herbal product boxes.
The total value of the seized liquor is estimated at ₹9.71 lakh. Additionally, police confiscated a mobile phone, cash, a tarpaulin, and 542 boxes of Patanjali products valued at ₹28.03 lakh, along with the truck worth ₹10 lakh. The driver of the truck, 33-year-old Dipak Sundarlal Jaat from Bhadhda village in Haryana’s Charkhi Dadri district, has been arrested. The police have also registered a case against Bindar, alias Fauji Bastiram Jaat, from Dinod village in Haryana, the sender of the liquor, and another person who was supposed to collect the liquor from Rajkot.
In another recent incident, the Sabarkantha LCB also apprehended a car involved in the illegal liquor trade. Officers received information about a car travelling from Rajasthan to Vijapur via Bhiloda, Gambhoi, and Himatnagar. The car was intercepted near the Polytechnic Crossroads in Himatnagar. During the operation, police arrested the driver, Pankaj Katara, aged 28, while another suspect managed to escape. The search of the car revealed 17 cartons of foreign liquor, containing a total of 504 bottles, valued at around ₹89,040. The police seized the vehicle, a WERNA model with a value of ₹2 lakh, leading to a total seizure of ₹2.89 lakh.
The police have filed a complaint against three individuals, including Bansilal, a salesman who supplied the foreign liquor, and Raju, a suspect from Mahudi Chowk, both of whom are still on the run.
Under the guidance of Superintendent of Police Chaitanya Mandlik, the Sabarkantha police are actively working to combat illegal arms and liquor trafficking in the region. Recently, they conducted a raid in Tokra Vasahat village, where they arrested two individuals from Rajasthan for carrying unlicensed firearms. The police received intelligence about illegal hunting activities in the area and set up a search operation. During the raid, they heard gunfire and moved quickly to apprehend the suspects, Mohanbhai Savsinh Solanki and Bhavarlal Vardaji Garasiya, who were found with a single-barrel homemade gun. The police are continuing their efforts to ensure safety and legality in the region.
