The local crime branch in Sabarkantha district made a significant drug bust recently. They seized foreign liquor worth more than ₹5 lakh based on a tip-off. The operation took place near Badodara in the Talod taluka.
Police received information that a white Baleno car (GJ01WU3343) was transporting liquor from Rajasthan. A white Alto car (GJ31BA7839) was piloting the Baleno. Both vehicles were travelling from Dhansura towards Badodara and Ujediyah, headed for Ahmedabad.
Officers set up a watch at Rozad Chowk. When the Baleno approached, police attempted to stop it. However, the driver tried to flee, breaking through the police barricade. Talod police were informed, and a blockade was set up near the bridge over the Meshwo River, close to the Sikotar Mata temple in Badodara.
During the operation, police managed to apprehend the driver of the pilot Alto car, Mukeshbhai, also known as Mogli Mangalsinh Rathod, who is a resident of Mahatma Gandhi Nagar in Ahmedabad. The driver of the Baleno managed to escape. Upon inspecting the Baleno, police discovered 1,130 bottles of foreign liquor valued at ₹5,08,475, along with two mobile phones worth ₹14,000, and the Alto car worth ₹2 lakh. The Baleno was valued at ₹4 lakh, bringing the total value of the seized items to ₹11,22,475.
A case has been registered under the Gujarat Prohibition Act at the Talod police station. The main suspect, Dipakbhai Sindhi from Kubernagar in Ahmedabad, is still at large.
This incident highlights ongoing efforts by police to combat bootlegging in Gujarat, where alcohol is prohibited. Despite the ban, illegal liquor is frequently smuggled into the state. The Sabarkantha local crime branch has been active in patrolling and intercepting illegal operations.
In a separate incident, the Sabarkantha LCB seized foreign liquor worth ₹25,320 from an Eco vehicle near Rani Talav in Idar. They also apprehended individuals involved in smuggling liquor to various locations in Gujarat. The police continue to investigate and make arrests to curb the illegal liquor trade in the region.
The police urge residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities. Community involvement is crucial in the fight against illegal alcohol trafficking. Authorities are committed to maintaining law and order and ensuring the safety of local communities.
