The Patan-Sihori Highway is in poor condition after the first rains of the season. The highway sees flooding due to sand deposits from the Banas River, making it harder for vehicles to pass. With the rainy season underway, the situation has worsened, especially on the bridges at Nayta and Bhutiyavasna, which have also developed large potholes. Drivers are demanding action to fill these potholes.
Frustration is growing among drivers as they navigate the highway. Reports indicate that many areas along the highway have been poorly repaired. In some cases, asphalt has been laid without proper leveling, causing bumps that pose risks to vehicles. Near the Kansa bus stand, there is an especially high bump that can cause motorcycles to slip. In just one week, three motorcyclists have been injured after losing control due to this hazard. Locals are urging authorities to address these dangerous bumps immediately to prevent serious accidents, especially at night.
In addition, the problem is exacerbated by the Banas River’s water management. The release of water from the river has disrupted traffic between Sihori and Patan. Currently, the bridge work has caused a diversion that has washed away, leading to a complete halt in traffic. As a result, drivers must take longer routes via Thara and the Radhanpur bypass, causing further delays.
Despite the troubles for drivers, farmers in the area are pleased with the rainfall. The regions of Banaskantha and Patan have faced drought-like conditions, but the recent rains have raised hopes for better crop yields. While the infrastructure issues on the highway need urgent attention, the agricultural community is hoping for a fruitful harvest this season.
