Under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has virtually inaugurated 18 redeveloped railway stations in Gujarat. This initiative is part of a larger plan to modernise over 1,275 railway stations across India. The scheme aims to enhance the travel experience and improve infrastructure significantly.
The inauguration took place during an event in Bikaner, Rajasthan, where Prime Minister Modi highlighted the importance of modernising railway stations to ensure better services for the public. The total cost for the redevelopment of these 18 stations in Gujarat amounts to ₹164 crores. Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel was present at the launch of the revamped Limdi station and expressed gratitude for the government’s focus on infrastructure.
As part of the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, the 18 stations in Gujarat include Shihor Junction, Utran, Dakor, Derol, Hapa, Jamjodhpur, Jamvanthli, Kanalsu Junction, Karmasad, Kosamba Junction, Limdi, Mahuva, Mithapur, Morbi, Okha, Palitana, Rajula Junction, and Samakhyali.
The Chief Minister stated that since Modi took charge, there has been a prioritisation of infrastructure development for both the military and common citizens. The modernisation of railway services is a vital aspect of this initiative. He mentioned that under Modi’s guidance, from 2014 to now, 3,144 kilometres of railway lines have been electrified in Gujarat, resulting in 97% of railway routes in the state being electrified.
Additionally, the railway budget for Gujarat for 2025-26 has been set at ₹17,155 crores, which is 29 times higher than the budget allocated during 2009-2014. The Chief Minister acknowledged that Gujarat has received four Vande Bharat trains as part of the national network established under Modi’s vision. He also pointed out that railway services have been expanded to ease access to major tourist destinations such as the Statue of Unity.
The Prime Minister’s virtual inauguration was attended by senior officials, local leaders, and a large audience who watched the live telecast of the event. The redevelopment of these stations focuses on improving passenger amenities, ensuring that the facilities are modern, comfortable, and accessible to all.
The Amrit Bharat Station Scheme is not just about aesthetic improvements; it aims to create a sustainable and integrated transport system that benefits local communities. This broader vision includes enhanced connectivity, better facilities for passengers, and environmentally friendly solutions.
In conclusion, as Gujarat celebrates this milestone in railway development, the focus remains on providing enhanced travel experiences and supporting the growth of the state through better infrastructure. The initiative is expected to improve passenger services and bolster the local economy by making travel more efficient and comfortable for everyone.
