Prime Minister Modi Inaugurates Key Railway Projects in Gujarat

Ahmedabad is witnessing a significant transformation in its railway infrastructure. On 26th May 2025, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated multiple railway projects in Dahod, marking a new era for railway connectivity in Gujarat. This initiative aims to modernise the Indian railway network and enhance regional development.

The newly inaugurated projects include the electrification of the Sabarmati-Botad section. This important step completes the electrification of the entire railway network in Gujarat. The 106-kilometre long railway line, costing ₹333 crore, connects Ahmedabad and Botad, ensuring an efficient and eco-friendly transportation option for passengers.

Electrification not only reduces dependence on fossil fuels but also promotes environmental sustainability. It provides residents of Botad, Bhavnagar, and surrounding areas with a faster and more efficient rail service. This upgrade is expected to redefine travel and business dynamics in the region and beyond.

Additionally, the Prime Minister launched the Vande Bharat Express train service between Veraval (Somnath) and Sabarmati (Ahmedabad). This train is designed to significantly reduce travel time for tourists visiting the sacred Somnath temple. The Vande Bharat Express is known for its modern amenities, ensuring a comfortable journey for passengers.

The Vande Bharat Express will start operating from 27th May 2025. It will run six days a week, except Thursdays. Train number 26901 will depart from Sabarmati at 5:25 AM and reach Veraval at 12:25 PM. For the return journey, train number 26902 will leave Veraval at 2:40 PM and arrive back in Sabarmati at 9:35 PM.

This train will also stop at key stations like Viramgam, Surendranagar, Wankaner, Rajkot, and Junagadh. It consists of eight coaches, including AC chair cars and an executive chair car, providing a luxurious travel experience.

These railway projects are part of a broader vision for an efficient and inclusive railway network in India. The advancements in Gujarat’s rail services are a blueprint for regional development across the country. The government is committed to enhancing connectivity and promoting economic growth through these initiatives.

The Vande Bharat Express trains are part of the ‘Make in India’ initiative and feature electric multiple units (EMUs) that were designed and manufactured in India. With speeds reaching up to 160 km/h, these trains offer a faster and more comfortable travel option compared to traditional trains. The introduction of Vande Bharat trains aims to replace older services like Shatabdi and Rajdhani trains, making rail travel in India more modern and efficient.

In conclusion, the inauguration of these railway projects by Prime Minister Modi marks a significant milestone for Gujarat’s railway infrastructure. With improved connectivity and modern amenities, these developments are set to enhance the travel experience for millions, boost tourism, and contribute to the economic growth of the region. The commitment to a fully electrified railway network showcases India’s dedication to sustainable development and innovation in the transport sector.
