Recently, a review meeting took place in Gandhinagar with officials from the Tribal Development Department and the Cabinet Minister for Tribal Development. During this meeting, Sunil Bhai J. Bhil, the president of the Patan Eklavya Jan Seva Trust, presented a written proposal to the Cabinet Minister Kuber Bhai Dindor. He highlighted that there are approximately 18,000 Scheduled Tribe individuals in Patan district.
The people from the Scheduled Tribes in Patan have benefited from government welfare schemes. However, there are still many issues regarding the social, economic, and educational upliftment of these communities. Currently, for these issues to be resolved, individuals must travel to the Assistant Tribal Development Office in Palanpur, Banaskantha district.
Therefore, the proposal requests the establishment of an Assistant Tribal Development Office in the district headquarters of Patan. This office would help facilitate access to government welfare schemes.
In addition, it has been noted that students from these communities face challenges when trying to use the Free Ship Card scheme in colleges and educational institutions affiliated with some universities in Gujarat. Although these students present their Free Ship Cards, they are often asked to pay fees instead. This issue arises especially when they seek admission to colleges affiliated with Hemchandracharya North Gujarat University in Patan. The Assistant Tribal Development Office in Palanpur is sometimes slow in processing the Free Ship Card applications, which adds to the students’ difficulties.
In light of these concerns, the Minister has acknowledged the proposal and appears willing to take appropriate actions to improve the situation. The establishment of a local office would likely streamline processes and assist in better implementation of welfare schemes, ultimately leading to improved educational and economic conditions for the Scheduled Tribes in Patan.
The Patan district was established on October 2, 2000, and has since been a significant area for Scheduled Tribe populations. It includes regions previously part of the Banaskantha and Mehsana districts. The district is home to various historical sites and cultural events, which can further enhance the educational landscape if supported by local government initiatives.
Overall, the request for an Assistant Tribal Development Office in Patan represents a vital step towards ensuring that the tribal communities receive the support they need.
