In an important crackdown, Gujarat’s Food and Drug Administration has raided several locations in Surat, Keshod, and Gandhinagar. The authorities seized fake cosmetic products worth over ₹1 crore. This operation aims to ensure that citizens receive safe and quality cosmetics.
The action comes after testing 14 cosmetic samples, which revealed the presence of counterfeit products. Commissioner Dr. H.G. Koshia stated that these operations are part of the government’s commitment to protect consumers.
The raids targeted various manufacturers who were selling cosmetics without proper licenses. Attractive and misleading labels were used for products like performance oils and herbal massage oils. These were advertised widely on social media and sold on online platforms like Meesho.
In Surat, the team found packing materials and numerous counterfeit products during a raid on Rajeshbhai Dahyabhai Lathiya’s residence. He was involved in running a racket that sold duplicate cosmetics online. The authorities seized products valued at around ₹55 lakh from his location.
Another significant find was in Keshod, where a large quantity of counterfeit cosmetics was discovered at the residence of Kuldeep Patoliya. These products were also being sold on Meesho. The team took samples for further testing and confiscated goods worth ₹55 lakh.
Additionally, in Gandhinagar, raids uncovered a production unit run by Pradipsinh Chhatrasinh Solanki. He was making fake cosmetics like hair color and henna powder at his home. Authorities seized products valued at ₹30 lakh and arrested individuals involved in the operation.
The Food and Drug Administration has urged the public to be cautious about cosmetic purchases online. They should verify the authenticity of products and avoid misleading advertisements. This operation highlights the government’s dedication to consumer safety and the fight against counterfeit goods in Gujarat.
With the growing trend of online shopping, the risks of buying counterfeit products also increase. Consumers are encouraged to report any suspicious products to the authorities. The crackdown on fake cosmetics is a step towards ensuring that only quality products reach the market.
