Rain and Thunder Bring Coolness to Palanpur

Palanpur, a town in Gujarat, experienced a sudden change in weather this evening. After a long period of unbearable heat, the arrival of rain brought much-needed relief to the residents. As the sun set, dark clouds gathered in the sky, signalling the approach of Meghraj, the rain god. With thunder and lightning, the rain finally began to fall. However, the heavy winds and rain caused water to collect in the low-lying areas of the city.

The downpour resulted in power outages in many parts of Palanpur, leaving residents frustrated. Despite this, the cool weather was a welcome change for those who had been suffering from the heat. The citizens were seen enjoying the refreshing rain, even as they dealt with occasional disruptions caused by the storm.

In Banaskantha district, where Palanpur is located, the situation was more severe. Heavy rain led to flooding in several areas. The local administration, led by District Collector Anand Patel, urged residents to stay alert and cautious. He advised against risky activities, such as filming videos in dangerous areas or approaching flooded rivers.

The rain has caused the closure of the Palanpur-Abu Highway due to flooding, leading to long traffic jams. Reports indicate that vehicles were backed up for about seven kilometres. Only large vehicles were allowed to pass, and police were on site to manage the situation. Recovery efforts were underway, including cranes to assist stranded vehicles.

The weather department has predicted more heavy rain in the region over the next 24 hours. Many roads have been affected, with approximately 20 roads reported to be flooded. The roads are currently being repaired by the local road and building department. In addition, the Banasa River has seen an increase in water flow due to good rainfall upstream.

Several roads in the district have been closed on the orders of the District Collector. These include routes leading to Bhilidi, Balochar, and other areas. Residents are advised to avoid these roads to ensure their safety.

The situation remains dynamic, and the administration is keeping a close watch on weather conditions. Alerts are being sent out to villages that may be significantly impacted by the continuous rainfall. Local officials are prepared to assist residents as needed.

As the heavy rains continue, many families are reminded to exercise caution, especially during this festive period. The arrival of rain is often seen as a blessing in Gujarat, but it also brings challenges that require careful management.
