Sati Indar Singh Sandhu, the supervisor of the 108 ambulance service, was among the first responders. He recalled the moment when he heard a loud bang while preparing for his shift. “I was inserting an IV when I heard a huge noise. I ran outside and saw smoke rising from the hospital mess. It was clear that something serious had happened,” he said.

Realising the gravity of the situation, Sandhu quickly alerted his control room and dispatched additional ambulances. His swift actions ensured that help arrived without delay. Jitendra Shah, the program manager, also received the call from Sandhu and immediately ordered all available ambulances to the crash site.

As ambulances rushed to the location, the team faced chaos. Chirag Santoki, an EMT, was present and described his experience. “I did not know that the person I was helping was the sole survivor of the crash,” he said. This survivor, Vishwas Kumar, was in shock but received immediate care from the team.

The 108 service prides itself on its extensive training for such emergencies. EMT Chintan Vankar shared that they had recently completed a training exercise. “We have been trained to calm patients and provide mental support,” he explained. Despite the chaos, Vankar was able to comfort Kumar and ensure he received the necessary medical attention promptly.

The rescue team worked tirelessly to assist others at the site. They transported several victims to hospitals and coordinated with medical staff to manage the situation efficiently. The quick response of the 108 team is a testament to their dedication and training.
