Record Price for Banni Breed Buffalo in Kutch

In a remarkable event in Kutch, a Banni breed buffalo was sold for a record price of ₹14.1 lakh. This sale marks a significant moment not just for Kutch but possibly for all of Gujarat. The buffalo, known for its impressive health and milk production capabilities, was sold in the Sanadhro village of Lakhpat taluka. The owner, Zakiya Jat, shared that while Banni breed buffaloes are often sold at high prices, this particular sale at ₹14.1 lakh is unprecedented in Gujarat.

The Banni breed is famous for its excellent milk production, with this buffalo yielding 27 litres of milk daily. Its striking black colour and healthy appearance make it highly sought after. The buffalo was purchased by Sherubhai Bhallu, a livestock owner from Serwa village in Bhuj taluka.

Gaji Haji Aladad, the seller, belongs to a family that has been involved in livestock farming for generations. They currently own around 80 buffaloes and produce about 300 litres of milk daily. Gaji’s two eldest sons have also joined the family business.

The Banni buffalo is known for its unique features, including its uniform black colour and attractive horns. These characteristics make it stand out among other breeds and often win competitions at livestock fairs. Generally, buffaloes in Kutch sell for prices ranging from ₹5 to ₹7 lakh, making this record-breaking sale particularly surprising.

Kutch is not only known for its geographical features but also for its rich culture and craftsmanship. The region’s livestock, especially the Banni breed, holds great value among farmers and is considered a status symbol. The high price of this buffalo reflects its quality and the demand for such livestock in the market.

The Banni breed is indigenous to Kutch and has gained recognition for its resilience and productivity. Local farmers have been able to thrive in challenging conditions by relying on this breed, which is well adapted to the arid climate of the region.

As livestock fairs continue to be held annually, the sale of this buffalo at such a high price is expected to set a new trend in the livestock market of Gujarat. With the increasing demand for quality livestock, it is likely that more farmers will seek to invest in Banni buffaloes to achieve similar success in their farming ventures.

This sale not only showcases the potential of the Banni breed but also highlights the importance of livestock farming in Kutch’s economy. The pride of local farmers in their livestock is evident, and events like these bring attention to the agricultural heritage of the region.

The success of this sale may inspire other farmers to explore the potential of their livestock, leading to a rise in the prices of Banni buffaloes in the future. As Gujarat continues to develop its agricultural sector, the spotlight on livestock farming, particularly the Banni breed, will likely grow even brighter.
